We returned to Wooler (29/07/2023) in Northumberland in the North East of England for our second YB race of the season. Again it was very disappointing entry of only 2,350 federation plus 17 other organisation baskets.

Last season the thought was because of starting two weeks earlier members didn't support the programme, so what's the reason this season?

Is it members are getting health issues among their flock that is stopping them racing.

With around 15,000 rings being provided to members and the small convoy it doesn't add up.

The birds were away at 7am in a south west wind that turned west on route. The winners hit the boards at 08 34 for the 69 mile journey recording a velocity of 1306 to the brilliant loft of Barclay McCrindle & Son  who fly in the Centre section. They take the first 9 in the section and the first 7 in the Open. This is off the back of winning the first 9 in the Open last week.

When you race your pigeons and condition them to the best of health and get blown away by such performances you ask yourself how can this be possible.

To get multiple drops and be the only loft to hit the 1300s is really quite scary.

Out of the convoy only 32 birds recorded a velocity of 1200s

There is something not right with racing this year, the gaps in returns for the " mere mortals" taking out the brilliant  McCrindles and the Macaloneys is significant in relation to team performances.

How can this be on a starting gate from 70 odd miles the federation convoy in its second race the majority cannot manage any decent consistency with returns.

The race controller is excellent and is giving them every chance, maybe its possible the birds are just not in the race condition of these top lofts. And by the time they are the season is over.

The McCrindles are masters of their craft, they have totally dominate the YB race programme -11st x 1st Open federation in their short career in the Lanarkshire YB racing.

.

Its not new for the McCrindles to dominate federations as they were the same in the Glasgow federation before moving east into Lanarkshire.

I have visited the partnership and reported on their set up. Its a modest set up and but by no means the biggest.

They have class pigeons but so have a lot of fanciers .What i feel they have is a fantastic racing system and are dedicated to getting the best out of their team. They race them every week and will also send them to the two National races at the end of the Lanarkshire programme. What is left is worth its perch.

Everyone are struggling to get on the same wave length as these guys.

Some will say they can only fly YBs, well check out the federation Combine Average Board which will tell you otherwise. They are a force of nature and are only going to gey better.

Whatever they have they are masters of their craft and deserve all the credit they are having in Lanarkshire.

Their winner this week again is bred out of direct Marina De Velde pigeons (Herman Custers, first two are nest mates .

Others on the drop are from their Glasgow federation toppers Hermans bonne x debackers others are Hooymans,Frans Zwols .

Barclay would like to thank the convoy team and race controller for excellent racing and their hard work. Reported his birds returned in fantastic condition.

Well done to the partnership and its only 7 days till I will possible be back asking the same questions.

Other lofts had a excellent race was GWP Macaloney recording top team performance in the North section

J Green & son showing some top form in the west section

Andrew McBurnie out in the far North winning the section with a cracker.

The rest of us struggled for returns and with the weather closing in on Sunday the late ones struggled. Anyway what is new i have stated you have to be able to take the losses in this game.

As I have said before just enjoy your pigeons and at your own loft you have a winner every week until you attend the club for the result.
