We are back at Alnwick in Northumberland (20/08/2023) for the last time this season. The modest convoy of 2,523 were away at 07 30hrs in a light west south west wind for the 94 miles to this weeks winner. The winning pigeon  completed the distance in 2 hrs 4 minutes to record a velocity of 1340ypm.

This weeks winner is club mate Lewis McCalley who had a cracking race winning 1st & 2nd16th,32nd ,41stNorth sect,1st & 2nd ,21st ,50th,72nd Open federation..His first bird beating all other competition by 26ypm.

Very impressive flying from Lewis who is no stranger to topping the Lanarkshire federation.

I put Lewis pigeons through at marking and thought then he would take some beating. The quality of his youngsters was outstanding. When putting his hen pigeons through I honestly thought I was handling the same pigeon.

They all handled the same, looked the same and of similar colour.

Lewis prides himself on the quality of pigeon and they didn't disappoint.

Most of his birds originate from Woodroffe Bros of Sunderland, out of their best sprint/middle distance lines. He also swaps birds with his good friend Mio Krivokapic of Greenfield club.

Lewis is a cracking pigeon fancier and his birds are a credit to him.

The winner is out of a excellent pair of racers for the partnership The Sire is a good race as are lots of his siblings which include an UNC section winner and other top 10 Open winners. The Dam again is a really good racer and again a lot of her brothers and sisters have won hosts of prizes.

2nd Open federation bred by Mio Krivokapic down through his good blue line.On the Sire side, with the Sire side being a brother of 552 that won Young Bird Open for Lewis a couple of years ago.The Dam is an egg he brought over from Montenegro.

The birds are raced on the darkness system although Lewis said this has been a bit of a shambles this year due to work issues .He said the birds haven't been as good as he would wish but is obviously delighted with another federation win.

Well done Lewis and all the best for next weeks Open race.

The big guns of the federation GWP Macaloney and Barclay McCrindle had their usual superb team performance with Macaloneys winning 3rd,4th,6th,9th,10th North sect,3rd,4th Open federation.
